Marketing Job Outlook 2025–2035: Which Roles Are Growing (BLS Data)
Marketing jobs are projected to grow faster than the economy overall. The Bureau of Labor Statistics expects employment of marketing managers to grow 6.9% and marketing specialists 7.0% from 2025 to 2035, against 3.5% for all occupations. Graphic designers and advertising and promotions managers are projected to shrink.
Key takeaways
- The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects employment of marketing managers and of marketing specialists to grow about twice as fast as employment overall from 2025 to 2035.
- Most marketing job openings come from people retiring or changing careers, not new jobs, so even shrinking occupations like graphic design keep hiring.
- Market research analysts and marketing specialists, the occupation most coordinator, SEO, social and digital roles are counted in, has the most openings: about 82,000 a year.
- BLS lists a bachelor's degree as the typical entry education for every marketing occupation here, and five or more years of experience for marketing managers.
5 of 11 marketing and creative occupations are projected to grow more than a point faster than the 3.5% average for all occupations from 2025 to 2035, led by market research analysts and marketing specialists (7.0%); advertising and promotions managers (-3.7%) shrink the most. The projections are the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest, covering 2025 to 2035.
Job outlook by marketing occupation
Each occupation links to our salary page for it. BLS projects occupations, not job titles, so a brand manager, a CMO and a marketing director are all counted as marketing managers, and most coordinator, SEO, social and digital roles as market research analysts and marketing specialists.

Which marketing jobs are growing fastest?
The analytical and management end of marketing is growing fastest: marketing specialists and analysts, marketing managers, and the web and interface designers who build digital products. Event planners and PR managers grow faster than average too.
Which marketing jobs are shrinking?
Graphic designers, writers and authors, and advertising and promotions managers are projected to shrink slightly. That doesn’t mean no jobs: BLS still expects about 16,000 graphic design openings a year, because people leave the occupation all the time. It does mean more competition for each role, so it helps to bring something beyond the core craft, such as strategy, video or data skills. Our guides on how to become a copywriter and the graphic designer job description cover what employers ask for now.
What does the outlook mean for your job search?
Openings matter more than growth rates (our marketing statistics page puts them next to pay). A growing occupation with few people in it, like film and video editing, has fewer openings a year than a flat one with many. If you’re choosing between two directions, look at both numbers, then at the salary each pays.
In an interview, the outlook rarely comes up directly. What helps is knowing why your function is growing or not at that company, and saying how your work ties to revenue.
