The Know the Room Team
We're the team behind Recon, interview research for marketing leaders. We write this library for people going after marketing jobs, and we check every page against public data before it goes up.
Who we are
We build Recon, which researches the company you’re interviewing with and helps you prepare for every round. We’re a small team with backgrounds in brand marketing, search and data, and we’ve sat on both sides of the interview table: hiring marketers and job hunting ourselves.
Know the Room is where we share what we’ve learned along the way. The guides cover each stage of a marketing job search, from reading a posting to negotiating the offer. The salary pages use government data rather than self-reported surveys. The company teardowns show the kind of research that makes an interview answer specific.
How we write and check our pages
- Sources are named. Every figure says where it came from: the US Bureau of Labor Statistics for salaries, and the data sources listed on each company teardown.
- Figures are dated. Salary pages say which survey they use; company pages say when the data was pulled.
- No invented examples. We don’t make up statistics, quotes, surveys or success stories. Example answers and templates use [placeholders] for your own facts.
- Checked against public data. Company teardowns are built from public sources, and we review them before publishing.
- Updated, not left to rot. Each page shows when it was last updated.
