What Recon stores
- Your account: name, email, a hashed password (never the password itself), and your credit history (purchases and runs).
- Your resume: the file you upload and the text read from it.
- Your applications: the job postings you add and everything made for them: briefs, resume tailorings, cover letters, phone-screen kits, interview preps, debrief notes, practice answers, outreach drafts, case decks and your notes.
- People you name: when you prepare for an interview or draft outreach, the names, titles and any profile text you paste about the people involved. Recon looks up public professional information about them only.
- API keys, if you add your own: encrypted, used only on the server for your runs, never shown again.
- Usage records: which runs you made and what they cost, for billing and to keep costs in check.
- How you found Recon: the first page of this site you visited and the website that linked you there (its address only, such as linkedin.com), noted in your browser and saved with your account when you sign up. We use it only to see which pages are useful. No cookies, ad trackers or third-party analytics.
What Recon does with it
Only what you ask for: your data is used to produce your briefs and documents. It isn't sold, shared for advertising or used to train AI models. Recon never sends email, messages or applications on your behalf.
The only emails Recon sends you are about your account: confirming your address, telling you you're approved, one reminder a day later if you haven't added a resume, and password resets you ask for. Recon's admin looks at account data only to answer a support request or fix a problem.
Research about companies uses public sources (their websites, search and social data, news, filings). Saved company data (not your personal data) is reused for up to 7 days to make later runs on the same company cheaper.
Services that process it
To do the work, Recon sends the parts of your data each run needs to these providers, under their API terms:
- Anthropic (Claude) — writes briefs, tailorings, preps and feedback. Receives your resume, the posting and the brief for the runs that use them.
- Perplexity — company news and public professional information about people you name.
- Apify — public social posts, comments and ads about the company and its rivals.
- Ahrefs — search data about the company's website.
- Stripe — payments. Card details go to Stripe directly and never reach Recon.
- Resend — the account emails above.
- Canva — only if you connect your Canva account: Recon sends the tailored resume you choose to open there. Recon stores an encrypted access key, never your Canva password; disconnect in Settings.
- Sentry — error reports when something breaks. They carry no resume, brief or form contents and no names or emails.
- Google Analytics — counts visits to our public pages (the homepage, guides and sample) and a few actions on them, such as requesting access or copying a template, using a cookie. It isn't loaded inside the app, so it never sees your resume, applications or notes. You can block it with Google's opt-out add-on or your browser's privacy settings.
- Fly.io (servers and database, United States) and Cloudflare (the website, a bot check on sign-up, and encrypted database backups).
Your choices
- Download everything: Settings → Your data → Download my data.
- Delete things: your resume, an application (with everything made for it), and individual preps, practice sessions, outreach drafts, cover letters and notes each have a delete button.
- Delete your account: Settings → Your data. Everything listed above is deleted straight away; usage records keep only an anonymous account number so totals still add up. Database backups are kept for 7 days, then deleted.
