Brand Manager Resume: Structure and Bullet Examples (CPG and Beyond)
A brand manager resume should show the brands you've owned, the business results you moved, and how you got work done through agencies and cross-functional teams. Lead with a short summary, give each role results in sales, share or brand health, and adjust the language for CPG or non-CPG employers.
Key takeaways
- A brand manager resume should show the brands you've owned, the business results you moved, and how you got work done through agencies and cross-functional teams.
- Every bullet on a brand manager resume should carry a result in sales, share, margin or brand health, with the brand and its scale named.
- A CPG brand manager resume leans on volume, share and retail results, while a non-CPG brand manager resume leans on growth, retention and positioning work.
- Brand managers with a recent MBA often put education near the top of the resume, and move it to the bottom after a few years in the role.

What should a brand manager resume show?
It should show that you can run a brand like a business: you understand the consumer, you make commercial decisions, and you get results through other people. Brand managers rarely make the ads or set the price alone. They decide, brief, persuade and track.
So the resume needs three kinds of proof. The brand and its size, so the reader knows the scale. The results, in sales, share, margin or brand health. And how you worked with agencies, sales, finance, R&D or product to get there.
For what the job involves day to day, and how it differs between companies, see the brand manager job description. The general resume rules are in our marketing resume guide.
How should a brand manager resume be structured?
Use a standard one- or two-page layout, newest role first, with results in every bullet.
| Section | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Header | Name, city, email, phone, LinkedIn |
| Summary | Two or three lines: level, category, the kind of brand work you do best, one result |
| Experience | Each role with the brand names, and three to six bullets |
| Skills | Commercial, consumer and tool skills the posting names |
| Education | Degree, MBA if you have one, relevant certifications |
Brand managers with an MBA from a CPG recruiting program often put education near the top while it’s recent. After a few years in role, it moves to the bottom.
How is a CPG brand manager resume different from a non-CPG one?
A CPG resume speaks the language of the shelf and the P&L; a non-CPG resume speaks the language of the funnel and the customer. The skills overlap, but the proof points and vocabulary differ.
| CPG (consumer goods) | Non-CPG (tech, services, retail, DTC) | |
|---|---|---|
| Main results | Net sales, share, distribution, margin, household penetration | Awareness, consideration, sign-ups, revenue, retention |
| Data sources | Syndicated retail data (such as Circana or NielsenIQ), shipments, brand trackers | Product analytics, CRM, brand trackers, search and social data |
| Typical work | Innovation pipeline, renovations, pack and price, retailer programs, trade spend | Positioning, campaigns, brand identity, launches, content and social |
| Partners | Sales, finance, R&D, supply chain, agencies | Product, growth, sales, design, agencies |
| Titles | Assistant brand manager, brand manager, senior brand manager | Brand manager, brand marketing manager, brand lead |
If you’re moving from one world to the other, translate your bullets. “Grew household penetration” becomes “grew the customer base” for a tech company. “Ran the brand campaign that lifted consideration” becomes “drove trial” for a CPG reader. The how to become a brand manager guide covers the routes between them.
How do you write a brand manager resume summary?
Write two or three lines that place you on the ladder and in a category, then name one result.
Brand manager with [number] years in [category: snacks, personal care, beverages], currently leading [brand] at [Company]. Led [launch / renovation / repositioning] that [result in sales, share or penetration]. Strongest at [consumer insight / innovation / commercial planning].
Brand marketing manager for [type of company: consumer app, DTC, B2B software], owning positioning and campaigns for [brand or product]. Led [rebrand / launch / campaign] that [result in awareness, consideration or revenue]. Moving into [the kind of role you want].
Treat these as a frame, not a script. Rewrite the wording until it sounds like you’d describe yourself to a peer over coffee: the phrase only you would use is often the one a hiring manager remembers. More versions are in resume summary examples.

Common brand manager resume mistakes
| Mistake | Fix |
|---|---|
| “Managed the brand” with no result | Say what moved: sales, share, margin, health |
| Taking credit for the whole team’s launch | Say which part you led and who you worked with |
| CPG jargon for a tech employer, or the reverse | Translate the terms for the reader |
| Listing every agency and research study | Keep the ones that led to a decision |
| No numbers because they’re confidential | Use percentages, index figures or rankings instead of raw sales |
If your company treats sales figures as confidential, percentages and relative results ("the fastest-growing brand in the portfolio") are usually fine. Check your employer’s policy if you’re unsure. Then go through your current resume line by line against this table; most people find two or three quick fixes.
Tailoring it to each role
Brand manager postings vary a lot, so the same resume rarely fits two of them. Recon reads the posting and your resume and suggests line-by-line rewrites that keep to the facts you’ve given, with placeholders where a line needs a number only you know. When the resume is ready, our brand manager interview questions cover what comes next.
FAQ
How long should a brand manager resume be?
One page for assistant and associate brand managers, and often for brand managers too. Two pages are fine at senior brand manager and above, when there’s more relevant work to show.
Should I include my MBA on a brand manager resume?
Yes, if you have one. At CPG companies that recruit assistant brand managers from MBA programs, it matters early on. Later in your career, it moves below experience.
Can I share sales numbers from my current brand?
Check your employer’s confidentiality policy first. When in doubt, use growth rates, share points, index figures or rankings rather than raw sales.
How do I move from agency or sales into brand management?
Lead with the brand work you’ve already done: briefs you wrote, plans you shaped, consumer insights you found. Translate your results into the brand team’s terms, such as sales, share and brand health. The how to become a brand manager guide covers the common routes.
Is a brand marketing resume the same as a brand manager resume?
Mostly. Brand marketing roles outside consumer goods often focus more on campaigns, positioning and creative work than on P&L ownership, so lead with the brand and campaign results the posting asks for. The structure and the result-first bullets stay the same.
